The Border Explorer Sports Report

The Cuban Olympic baseball team, fresh off a thrilling win over Canada, returned to the diamond Friday to edge its arch-rival Americans 5-4 in 11 innings, according to the CBC.

This didn't get a lot of news coverage in the United States, so I thought I'd give them a shout out here: Hasta la victoria siempre, muchachos!

Nothing besides swimming, gymnastics, and track is getting any kind of coverage here. It's so frustrating!!!

Add half-naked beach volleyball to the list. The women are getting huge amounts of air time.

Coverage seems to get more and more U.S. centered every Olympic cycle. And more like sound bites instead of real competition.

And truthfully? I've had quite enough of Michael Phelps. Can't they find something else to talk about? I also hate the ethnocentric coverage.

As long as they don't interfere with the Chicago Cubs going to the World Series, I'm all over it.

Loooove your comments. Your coverage observations (being narrow, sexist, U.S.-centric, Phelps-centric, & ethnocentric) ring true. Thank you for chiming in.

Diva: Oh, the exquisite pain of being a Chicago Cubs fan! And now you're at Ground Zero!!

At the risk of sounding like a typical, chest-thumping, Old Milwaukee-swilling American, they didn't beat our major leaguers. ;-)

I can't stand to watch the Olympics save basketball.

Base-ee-ball, been berry, berry good to a lot of Cubans.

If you're just watching NBC for coverage, all you're going to get are the "popular" events. Check out MSNBC, USA, Oxygen, and UHD for even more events.

Randal, despite your patriotic protest, I hope you enjoyed my sports report, a topic rarely discussed here (unlike other blogs I know.)

Good one, Robert. And how could I ever get along without your media perspective?

Hey, someone has to blog about that most underrepresented facet of modern American culture, sports. Everyone, you're welcome.
